Dog and cat traders snatch animals from the streets, steal pets from backyards. They are crammed together on the back of trucks and driven for days—sick, hungry, thirsty, injured and afraid—then beaten to death or hanged in slaughterhouses or markets. In Switzerland, Ghana, Cambodia, Indonesia, Ghana, Laos, Nigeria, North Korea, and Vietnam dogs are bred in barren cages, without proper food, water or protection from the elements. Most people across Africa don’t eat dog or cat, and Dogsliberated is working with local groups to lobby for change.
Every year, roughly 30 million dogs are slaughtered and eaten by humans around the world.

We are very careful in spending donations from our generous donors. Eighty-five percent of our funds go toward animal protection programs, from ending the cruel dog meat trade to fighting egregious forms of wildlife abuse. Only 10 percent goes toward fundraising and 5 percent for administrative costs. You can get a full breakdown of our finances here. See donation-related FAQs here.
Thank you for offering a home to a dog in need! As part of our dog meat farm closures, Dogsliberated has transported dogs to the U.S., the U.K., Canada and the Netherlands, where they are placed with shelter and rescue organizations for care, medical and behavioral evaluation and eventual adoption. We post links to lists of the organizations through which Dogsliberated has placed dogs here and here. Dogsliberated does not facilitate adoption. Please contact the organizations directly to find out how to meet the dogs and apply to adopt.
Dogsliberated is one of the leading global organizations working in countries across Africa and Asia to end the cruel dog and cat meat trade. We provide funding to train officials for improved enforcement of laws; help local partner groups on the ground with veterinary and shelter care for confiscated animals; raise global awareness of the suffering involved in illegal dog theft...
Over the past 25 years, Dogsliberated has been developing culturally sensitive approaches to manage street animals humanely and effectively, partnering with governments and local organizations so that our programs will be sustainable in the long term. These programs include veterinary training in high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter surgery; sterilization; vaccination; and strong public engagement to change human behavior in relation to community and owned animals.
Thank you for being the person who is strong enough; both mentally and physically to rescue and treat these loving dogs instead of ignoring the reality. You are going to inspire a great amount by helping others come to the awareness of what goes on in the world, as well as inspire others to take action by sharing, donating, and volunteering. Once again, thank you.
I donated because as an animal lover myself, watching videos brought me to tears. What these people do to these dogs is cruel and disgusting. I want to help out and team up to save these poor innocent animals and get them into loving homes in healthy conditions.
this organization and its partners are doing a wonderful job in saving these poor dogs from the dog meat industry and it makes me sad to see beautiful dogs being treated like nothing. this is the type of stuff that should not be allowed. animals are living beings too and should be treated equally, they are not meant to be eaten.
